Flaming Idols are altar candles featuring inspiring figures of the LGBTQ community, created and handmade by Philadelphia artist and activist Robin Markle.
 
Laverne first rose to fame in her role as badass inmate Sophia Burset on the tv show Orange is the New Black. The role led to her first Emmy nomination. Laverne is a trailblazer who has used her platform to speak out about violence faced by trans women and other issues affecting LGBTQ communities. On being considered a role model, Laverne says, “I would never be so arrogant to think that someone should model their life after me. But the idea of possibility, the idea that I get to live my dreams out in public, hopefully will show to other folks that it's possible. So I prefer the term 'possibility model.' ”
