Flaming Idols are altar candles featuring inspiring figures of the LGBTQ community, created and handmade by Philadelphia artist and activist Robin Markle.

Bayard Rustin (1912-1987) was an African-American civil rights organizer and musician. Bayard was raised by his grandmother and carried her Quaker values of non-violence with him throughout his life. He was arrested dozens of times for refusing to give up his seat on buses and at lunch counters. Bayard helped organize the first Freedom Ride and was a mentor to Dr. MLK, introducing him to Ghandian methods of non-violent protest.

Candle is hand-poured with soy wax and burns for approximately 10 hours. Glass votives are 2.5in high and 2in wide at the base.
