Flaming Idols are altar candles featuring inspiring figures of the LGBTQ community, created and handmade by Philadelphia artist and activist Robin Markle.
Wanda Sykes is a stand-up comedian, writer, and actor. She has been nominated for fourteen Primetime Emmy Awards and won the 2001 American Comedy Award for Funniest Female Stand-Up Comic. She has also been honored for her activism on behalf of LGBTQ communities. Much of her standup is about her family, queer parenting, and sociopolitical issues.
 
You might light this candle and look to Wanda for inspiration and guidance in persevering in spaces dominated by straight men, finding humor in the dark parts of life, and reconciling with estranged family.
 
The candle is hand-poured with unscented soy wax and burns for approximately 10 hours. Glass votives are 2.5in high and 2in wide at the base.
