Flaming Idols are altar candles featuring inspiring figures of the LGBTQ community, created and handmade by Philadelphia artist and activist Robin Markle.
Vico Ortiz is an actor and drag performer best known for their role as Jim on the TV show Our Flag Means Death. Vico is proudly Puerto Rican and non-binary. They’ve said,"It’s so odd to me to have to explain that our existence is valid. Do you know? It’s doubled down. Black people are now like, ‘Our existence is valid’; trans women, trans men… non-binary black folk are like our existence is valid. YES, why can’t anybody see that? I don’t understand."
 
You might light this candle and look to Vico for inspiration and guidance in advocating gender-neutral language, creating a drag persona, and fighting against oppressive institutions. 
 
The candle is unscented soy wax and burns for 10 hours. Glass votives are 2.5in high and 2in wide at the base.
