Lil Nas X is a young idol, barely out of his teens. He hustled to spread his art across social media platforms until his song Old Town Road blew up on TikTok and went on to become the longest-running No. 1 song in Billboard chart history. Billboard removing it from the Country chart brought attention to industry racism, but it didn’t hurt the song’s success. Neither did Nas publicly coming out as gay. Of his rise to fame he says, “Last year I was sleeping on my sisters floor, had no money, struggling to get plays on my music, suffering from daily headaches. Now I’m gay.”
