An Aerium is a glass globe that contains an air plant, or one of the species Tillandsia. Unlike terrarium plants, air plants do not have roots, and need no soil. The plant absorbs water and nutrients through its leaves.
Each month, all proceeds of our Aeriums will be donated to an organization that works to redistribute resources to Philadelphia's Black and Brown residents. For August 2021, proceeds will go to the Sankofa Community Garden. Located at Bartram's Garden in Southwest Philly, Sankofa fosters a deeper relationship with the land and increased access to fresh fruits and vegetables within the community, especially for older African American families and newer West African immigrants who call Southwest Philadelphia their home.
The globes and some other materials were given to us by local ceramic artist and former aerium maker Kellyanne Mifflin of Stitch Prism.
