Craft Fair, Bike Sale and Reception for Soapmaker Volta Organics (with free samples!)

This Saturday, it’s another Second Saturday craft fair of talented and diverse local artisan vendors. Check out all the wondrous handmade wares, such as reconstructed childrens’ clothing, cards, boxes, jewelry, knitted accessories and even hula hoops, in the triangle in front of the Firehouse at 50th & Baltimore. Upstairs at Firehouse Bikes, enjoy 10% off anything in their stock of new and vintage bikes and bike accessories. Music will be provided by Lion Versus (performing at 3pm) and DJ Danophonic. Vendor spaces still remain; please email satellite2ndsaturday@gmail.com to register. Spaces are $15 or $25, weather permitting.

Here at VIX, our special guest will be Lisa Volta of Volta Organics. Lisa’s soaps have a dedicated following and for good reason. Each bar is made of wholesome, all-natural oils, essences, clays and herbs that are sustainably sourced and usually organic. Her significant knowledge of therapeutic herbology combined with her art & design skills make for a distinctive line of bath & body products, which she has continuously refined over the past 9 years. Her home-based business now stocks 12 local shops and continues to grow. On Saturday, she will be here from 12 to 3 to represent her entire collection of soaps, balms, powders and potions and to share a bit about her process, including examples of some of her equipment and raw materials. If you’ve ever wanted to know what it takes to make great soap, now’s your chance to ask an expert! Refreshments will be served, and 50 free samples of luscious all-natural soap will be given out to the first 50 guests, starting at 12 noon.
Next month’s featured Second Saturday artist will be the radiant Krista Peel, jewelry maker extraordinaire and keeper of the Philadelphia Art Hotel. We are really looking forward to this one!

New items are arriving all the time and we are in search of fresh handmade wares for the fall season, particularly knitted accessories, woodwork, pillows, calendars, jewelry and toys. Ecofriendly items are especially wonderful. We love to help support local artists, so if you or anyone you know makes something great, we’d love to hear about it!
All the best from West Philly,
Emily, Sean and Nora

We had a great time with Lisa Volta! Here are some photos of her Soapy Second Saturday, when she treated us to mud facials and showed off her ingredients and techniques.
